Rinjani has six official trails, and the three in the south have the lowest park fee and the shortest drive from Mataram. Timbanuh, Tetebatu and Aik Berik are Class 2, so a foreign trekker pays Rp 200,000 a day instead of Rp 250,000, and in 2025 each had a quota of 100 or 150 hikers a day. All three were operating on 3 October 2026. Torean, in the north, has not reopened since the fire that started there on 22 September 2026.

The four at a glance

Trail Foreign fee per day 2025 quota From Mataram by road
Timbanuh Rp 200,000 100 or 150 58 km
Tetebatu Rp 200,000 100 or 150 48 km
Aik Berik Rp 200,000 100 or 150 29 km
Torean Rp 250,000 Shared with Senaru and Sembalun, about 300 in total Not computed (closed)

Fees come from Kompas TV (Nov 2025). Quotas are from the park head’s April 2025 statement; he gave “100 and 150” without saying which trail gets which. Distances are OSRM estimates from getting to the trailhead.

Timbanuh, Tetebatu and Aik Berik

These three trails start in East Lombok (Timbanuh, Tetebatu) and Central Lombok (Aik Berik). They are the closest trailheads to Mataram and Lombok’s airport. Aik Berik is about 29 km from Mataram, while Senaru and Sembalun are about 86 km. Their quotas are smaller, so fewer people can be on each trail. We could not find a current official description of where each trail goes on the mountain or how many days it takes.

Tip. If you were planning on Senaru and it closes again, these are the other trails to ask about. They were on the operating list throughout the October 2026 fire closure.

Torean

Torean is a Class 1 trail from North Lombok, in the same price band as Senaru and Sembalun. The September 2026 fire began at Bukit Setampol, in the Torean section. By 26 September it had burned 977.74 ha. On 30 September both Torean and Senaru were closed until further notice. Senaru reopened on 3 October, and Torean did not.

Questions about Mount Rinjani

Is Torean open?

Not as far as we can find. Torean was closed with Senaru on 26 September 2026. When Senaru reopened on 3 October, the list of operating trails did not include Torean.

Are the southern trails cheaper?

The park fee is. Foreign trekkers pay Rp 200,000 a day on Class 2 trails, against Rp 250,000 on Senaru and Sembalun. Operator prices for these routes vary.

Which Rinjani trail is closest to Mataram?

Aik Berik, about 29 km by road, or 28 minutes with no traffic by routing software. Tetebatu is about 48 km and Timbanuh about 58 km.

What is the daily quota on the southern trails?

In April 2025 the park head gave 100 or 150 hikers a day for each southern trail, without saying which trail gets which. We found no 2026 figure.

Where do the southern trails start?

Timbanuh and Tetebatu start in East Lombok, and Aik Berik in Central Lombok.
